The crown of Dalmatia

The town of Trogir is located in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic coast between the Dalmatian cities of Split and Šibenik, with which it forms a cultural and tourist Mecca for numerous visitors. The Trogir archipelago, dotted with islands, islets and tranquil bays with accessible land routes, has attracted numerous conquerors, seafarers, traders and chance travellers since ancient history.

The rich history of Trogir

In the 3rd century BC, the unbridled desire to conquer new seas and establish new colonies led the ancient Greek sailors to this quiet bay where they discovered and settled a small island, calling it Tragurion. The town has since lived a long and uninterrupted history with a rich architectural expression and inexhaustible tradition of its inhabitants which harbours the eventful past of tumultuous centuries. The edifices in the historic city centre are made of stone, ornately carved into the most subtle stone lace by some of the leading European sculptors.
